Coffee Break - Dec 2009

KelvynDear Friends,

By the time you read this it will be four weeks or less until Christmas Day and we are now starting the season of Advent. It is a great time to creatively focus on the Incarnation and encourage people to heighten their awareness of God coming to them and speaking with them in whatever which way.

This was partly the challenge of Assembly three weeks ago, when we heard a number of stories of God speaking to individuals and communities. We hope to soon send each church a DVD of the main speaking sessions which is different to the one you will receive that includes the stories of what is happening in the churches. Over coming months we will be following through on some of the words we heard and seeking to flesh them out further, along with ascertaining how we are responding. The responses will no doubt be many and full of possibility for myriad situations as we seek to be people of God who listen carefully, act faithfully, and look for the supernatural action of God Himself.

I read this morning in Romans 4 and this phrase from verse 14, as per The message, captured my spirit for reflection "…because they were willing to live in the risky faith embrace of God’s action for them…” This is punchy and potent if pondered for a few minutes and fits well with much of the message coming out of Assembly. It is a challenge and a blessing and it applies to anyone of Jesus' followers of any age in any situation. That means you and me.
I pray your personal and church family celebrations of Christmas will be rich in joy and creativity. For those taking a break through January, I pray you will know much physical and spiritual refreshment, and for those labouring on through this period may you too know some relaxation in the more laid back season.
I look forward to hearing some of the stories through 2010 of how you and your people are responding to the words you have heard from our God who speaks.
