Hillsong Live – Cornerstone

cornerstone“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” One could be forgiven for mistaking this as Hillsong’s marketing strategy when listening to their latest release, Cornerstone. In 2006 Hillsong released Mighty to Save, a wonderful album featuring a number of now staple church songs. But I am not convinced that musically they have moved on since.

Cornerstone features 15 tracks of the same-ole – a collection of songs that only really differ in their lyrical content.  While the performance is top notch and the lyrics are worshipful, I feel like I have heard it all before. Boring and bland are two adjectives that come to mind, words that should never describe worship music. Unfortunately there isn’t much else to say.

I am sure Christians worldwide will still flock to buy the album, but I will still be left feeling disappointed.
