Unfortunately, most church-goers probably won’t give this debut album more than a brief glance – a bunch of tattooed, pierced teenagers making more of that “dreadful noisy screaming music.”
However, this would be to judge a book by its cover. Granted, The Overseer have produced music in a genre that certainly won’t suit everybody’s tastes, but they carry a passion for honesty and truth.
Is this not one of the core values of the Christian faith (John 18:37)? The album is thematically built around people’s search for hope and truth, and the band explores this theme in light of their Christian faith and personal experiences.
The album is hard rock through and through. It sounds like an album Underoath could have released in their prime (think before Disambiguation and drummer Aaron Gillespie left). It is pure music gold; Overseer have a bright future ahead of them.
