Senior Pastor Murray Gordon
Leading up to Pentecost, Murray preached a series on the Holy Spirit. Josh Klinkenberg and a team from Inflame School of Worship later led a weekend seminar for our musicians and singers. Queen’s Birthday was our youth development weekend, a home-grown experience organised by youth pastor Joel Gordon. It was designed to encourage youth to move out of their comfort zone.
Our men’s ministry team continues to organise fellowship evenings, including our annual bowling night. They also showed the movie Courageous, followed by a four week men’s small group study. Carterton Baptist folk joined us for these events. The women’s ministry team showed Amish Grace, and held a women’s breakfast at which Tina Syme from Hutt City spoke. A recent members meeting resulted in a unanimous vote to call Sandra Gordon as our Women and Children’s Pastor, a role she has been functioning in for some time.
Blenheim
June was Generosity Month; we have been encouraged to think and act generously. Names of needy people were submitted to the organising team, and for four weeks we brought groceries to church to add to decorated boxes for these people. With memories of Harvest Festival Sundays, everything was stacked on the platform, on top of the covered baptistry and in the foyer. During the service, the Fusion kids took more than 40 homebaked fruit loaves to our neighbours, and reported back on their experiences – mostly of pleasure and surprise at such a gift. After the service ‘real coffee’ was served from the Coffee Cart, and sausages and pancakes for lunch. Other blessings in July are visiting speakers, the Women of Influence Conference, a baptismal service, and consideration of the pastoral vacancy.
