Moriah Peters – I Choose Jesus

cdmoriahThere is something comfortably familiar about Moriah Peters’ debut album. This said, songs such as “I Choose Jesus” are a breathe of fresh air within the current pop music scene. If we could somehow combine Taylor Swift, Stevie Wonder, and a Black American gospel singer into one 19-year-old girl, the result would be something like Moriah Peters. With a plethora of musical styles, from pop to country to jazz and blues, blended together in such a beautiful way, this album is like sweet chocolate for your ears.

The story behind this album is just as heart warming. Having auditioned for American Idol, Moriah was turned down by the short-sighted panel of judges. They claimed she would never succeed in a musical career unless she ditched her wholesome image. It is so wonderful to see that Moriah stuck to her guns, having released an album with tracks like “And we Haven’t Even Kissed” and “I Choose Jesus,” built on the very wholesome image that was meant to keep her from ever succeeding.
