Auckland Tabernacle
Senior Pastor Rev Lindsay Jones
While the search committee for a morning congregation pastor sorts out what God confirmed at a recent church meeting, outreaches, conversions and baptisms continue. Over 20 nationalities comprise the All Nations service. The Global congregation again needs room to expand. A successful “Tab Day Out” for all congregations was held on Anzac Day.
Other initiatives such as prison ministry, budgeting service and "ice cream Sundays” (community lunch) continue to receive God’s blessing. We are hosting a large World Chinese Christian Music Conference mid-July, and a missions weekend mid-August, celebrating 100 years since our first missionary went overseas.
Hillsborough
Senior Pastor Glenn Edmonds
Pastor Edmonds has given a series of challenging messages on ‘It’s all about the Kingdom.’ Linda Rios Brook conducted a weekend seminar on ‘Purpose – bringing God’s Kingdom into the workplace.’ Christine and David Foris have returned to Peru and Mexico for 3 months to teach Christian college students. Edward and Suzanne Sands have returned from service in Indonesia; Keith and Marion Warrington have returned to Germany; Rick and Lauryn Velvin (MAF) to teaching flying and ministry in villages in Mt. Hagen, PNG. Brewerton family have also returned to minister in Africa. Sons of Korah ministered in psalms music. Prayers continue for restored health for Associate Pastor Eamon Sullivan and for his family. Good to have had Roydon Chesswas, and Jim and Lois Couch, overseas missionaries, visiting us.
Long Bay
Pastor Rodney Duncan
As part of World Vision’s 40-Hour Famine in May, a number of our youth passed an interesting night outside in cardboard boxes while one brave guy spent 20 hours up a tree! We are praying for Ross Georgiou, who has gone to London as a chaplain at the Olympics, and also for a special family who are preparing to immigrate here. This family includes our future senior co-pastor, who should be joining us in the next few months. In our Faith@Home initiative we have been looking at practical ways for families to explore and build their faith together (e.g. by sharing family highs and lows and then praying a simple prayer about them).
Manukau City
Senior Pastor Alastair Hall
Upcoming events include a garage sale/carwash fundraiser for Church Camp; unders/overs soccer and netball; pamper fundraiser for camp, and an Alpha Course starting in July. We have a heating project to fit the auditorium out with permanent heating. We hosted the Watoto Choir in the last week of May and had over 550 people at the Friday night concert. Excel School of Performing Arts had a Friday night concert and featured at our Sunday Morning Church one weekend in June. Morning church recently did a series on the Sermon on the Mount followed by Proverbs.
River Valley
Pastor Barry Pearman
We celebrated the 80th birthday of founding member and previous SIM worker Norene Bond with a church lunch. Several of Norene’s friends and co-workers also attended. In March we had our third annual Gala Day. Many of our small community joined us. We also celebrated the second anniversary of mainly music in April. Mainly mums started in May along with a women’s fellowship group for all ages. On May 14, Barry Pearman commenced as our first pastor, part time, and we are looking forward to an official induction service in June. Barry has been associated with the church for many years and we are excited to enter a new phase with a pastor. We are starting to run out of room in some Sunday services and our preschool room had to be enlarged.
