Waikato/Central Districts – July 2012

Hamilton South

Pastor Mike Walker

On July 26 a short term mission team that includes Peter and Marion Sanders, and Neil and Bev Higgs, fly to Mbarara, Uganda, with four others from NZ. They will spend three weeks on behalf of the NZ Uganda Heifer project, an initiative started by a small group of Christian farmers from Te Awamutu 8 years ago.

To date, NZ funds have sponsored the purchase of 80-90 heifer calves in Uganda for impoverished families. The difference a simple milking heifer makes to a family, and extended family is huge. This process is ongoing, and when cows have a calf the process goes full circle to another impoverished family. The team will spend most of their time building a brick house for the farm workers, extending the cowshed, and installing solar powered water pumps. Marion and Bev will also use their nursing skills.
