Nearing Home: Life, Faith and Finishing Well

billygrahamBilly Graham may be in his 90s but he has lost none of the gifts that made him the 20th Century’s greatest Christian communicator. Even for those of us not yet in our 90s (although it feels like it some days), this is a wonderful, charming and heart warming reflection on the latter days of life.

Graham comes across as a man at peace. Clearly he misses his beloved Ruth, who passed away in 2007, and struggles with the aches and pains of age, but he remains determined to fulfill God’s calling on his life with hope and confidence in his eternal destiny.

“No, old age is not for sissies,” says Graham, who doesn’t try to sugar-coat the challenges of growing old. Instead, he has written a book that fills an important gap in the market: preparing for old age before you get there.

Graham explores the reality of what it means to grow old and how to respond to the challenges. Using the wisdom he has gained from nearly a century of Christian evangelism, and quoting examples from the many senior citizens of Scripture, he gives practical advice on coping with the golden years, of standing strong with fading strength, of influencing the younger generation in a positive way, and of preparing for our ultimate home in Heaven.

Let’s hope Billy Graham has a couple more books still left in him.
