Northland/Auckland – June 2012

Long Bay
Pastor Rodney Duncan
April was a month of camps. Our intermediate-aged children and leaders set off to eCamp in Cambridge, while 32 Year 9-and-up teens attended Easter Camp at Mystery Creek. They were great times of bonding, fun and learning about God’s love for us in our brokenness. Our Shine AKTIF church camp followed with 28 packed hours of team games, quizzes, activities, feasting, reflection, talking, listening and worship for all ages.

Then it was straight into a new Alpha course and the beginning of May, a month of talks by guest speakers on topics such as how to care for those in the depths of grief, and how there is always hope for your children (presented by a panel of ex-prodigals).

Mt Roskill
Pastor Rodney Cowell joined us as interim senior pastor until the end of August. He and his wife, Beryl, are making their warm presence felt. This year’s 24/7 programme at Mt Roskill Intermediate School, led by Nathan Thomas, is up and running. Several kids from the programme attended e-Camp, and all of them made some level of commitment to Christ. We were sorry to lose one of our children’s pastors, Andrea McNickle, and wish her well with her new position at May Road school. Anna Pomeroy has joined us as children’s worker, with responsibility for the Sunday morning children’s programme until the end of the year. Our church op shop continues to provide a wonderful opportunity to reach into our community, as well as funding community ministries. We are thankful for the team of dedicated volunteers who put so many hours in every week.
