God’s plan for Israel

In response to Brian Hooper’s letter to the editor in the February issue of the NZ Baptist, I would point out that the Jews (so-called) who have returned to Palestine have in no way whatsoever fulfilled the promises that the Lord God Almighty made with Abraham, confirmed to Isaac and established in Jacob and his 12 sons.

As the Lord God Almighty is “not a man that he should lie,” and states, “I am God and I change not,” it beggars belief that Christians are of the misconception that because the House of Israel (the ten tribes) were so wicked in failing to keep his laws that he cast them off with complete disregard for their future.

As our God, the one and only living God, understands the end from the beginning, he would never have made unconditional promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that would not be fulfilled.

Israel was to become a great nation, their name would be great (Genesis 12:2), as numberless as the stars of heaven and possess the gates of their enemies (Genesis 22:17), a company of nations, “and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession” (Psalm 2:8).

The Israelis have accomplished none of these things, whereas the British together with the American people have fulfilled all. The Israeli national flag has no biblical relationship in contrast to the British, whose national coat of arms bears the lion and the unicorn and the inscription Dieu et Mon Droit – God and my (birth)right.

Strong’s concordance gives the following meanings: Beriyth is ancient Hebrew for covenant; iysh – man and oniyah – ships.

God’s plan for the true Israel cannot possibly fail. Let’s look in the right direction.
