NFP Marketing in 2012

According to Kivi Leroux Miller, a NFP marketing consultant, these are three big marketing trends for 2012 and how they will apply to the NFP sector:

  1. Turning from mass messaging to more personalised choices.
    Be open to, and embrace, supporters’ ideas. Tag people on your database according to their interests, and then segment and tailor your communications accordingly.
  2. Experimenting with a series of small steps rather than planning out a whole project in advance.
    Try something new. Change the goal from ‘doing what will work’ to ‘learning what works’.
  3. Injecting your ideas or angles into breaking news, in real-time, to generate media coverage.
    Prepare so you can respond quickly and comment in real-time on developing news stories – organising press releases by committee is not going to work! Regularly practice brainstorming ‘What if’ stories around recent headlines.
