It was John Wesley, father of the Methodist movement and renowned intercessor, who made the profound statement that when believers pray they should do so with the Bible in one hand and a newspaper in the other. No doubt he was pointing to the fact that while the Bible is the intercessor’s primary source of reference for prayer, other secondary sources, such as news articles, provide a vital link to a wealth of factual information about the world that the intercessor should find both helpful and useful for vibrant effective prayer.
This book relates events that have occurred as an outcome of the 9/11 attacks on America. For most of our generation it has been a historical reference point as the Pearl Harbour attack was for another generation. Rather than being a pure history, this is a series of chapters about the event’s impacts on the lives of individuals.
It challenges once again the maxim that “the ends justify the means.” As we pray for those in authority, that they may have wisdom in their decision making, let us also remember to pray that “justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream,” Amos 5:24.
