Once again the Self Denial appeal has been handsomely supported. Even in hard times the total giving increases. We appreciate the value of email in keeping us up-to-date with the activities of Peter and Lynley to whose work this church contributes. Greg Knowles from tranzsend was a recent guest speaker. Rather than running our own food bank we now contribute non-perishable food to the Salvation Army’s work in that field. Pastor Paul is running a Sunday evening Christianity Explored course for teenagers.
We recently celebrated the lives of two long-time faithful servants of the Lord who have gone to be with him – Nita Baker and Rev. Geoff Whelan. We miss them.
Morrinsville
Approximately 20 leaders at Morrinsville Baptist cater for youth groups from Intermediate age to young adults. Last year when someone mentioned youth group at Morrinsville College they were laughed at; this year it is the place to be. Average numbers most nights are 60-80, sometimes over 100 on special occasions. Approximately 30% are non-churched and numbers are growing. Activities are run on a 5-week rotating programme with 3 weeks of small group Bible studies including a speaker, sports night and whatever night. Week 4 is a social, and week 5 boys and girls are separated and have their own programme. About 40 also attend night church in Hamilton each week.
