FROM CAREY BAPTIST COLLEGE

Pastoral Leadership Open Day

On Tuesday, 16 August, Carey Baptist College will throw open its doors for a pastoral leadership Open Day. The purpose of this day is to provide a relaxed, informative, ‘live’ opportunity for anyone interested in checking out Carey’s pastoral leadership training programme for 2012. There will be a chance to meet with students and staff, sit in on a Pastoral Theology lecture, join in community activities, and ask any questions about Carey’s leadership training.

Can you think of people within your congregation who have pastoral leadership potential? Is there a person who you sense God might be calling to be either a pastor or a youth pastor? As a movement we really depend on your help, as pastors, in promoting this day to the potential pastoral leaders that you know. For those interested, please refer them to Karen Schilperoort on (09) 525 4017 or mailto

 Summer Pastorates

Summer pastorates are a crucial component in the pastoral leadership training programme at Carey. They are part of what sets that programme apart from anything else on offer in New Zealand. The chance to spend 12 weeks full-time in a church over summer is a truly transformative experience for pastoral leadership students.

Would you consider having a Carey student for 12 weeks over the 2011-12 summer? The cost is approximately ($7,500) – being 80% of an unregistered pastor’s stipend – plus accommodation and transport to and from the placement. This is a significant cost, but a really significant investment in the training of our next generation of Baptist pastors – and a great way to fill any pastoral gaps. If you want to find out more about Carey’s summer pastorate programme, please contact Karen Schilperoort on (09) 525 4017 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
