It seems redundant to say that FM Static make dumb music, because I’m fairly certain that they make dumb music intentionally. Consequently, your feelings about this album are going to very much depend on whether you want to hear a man in his mid 30s sing and rap about high school emotions over Blink-182 meets Avril Lavigne pop-punk.
I mean, this is a band called FM Static that has included a song called “F.M.S.T.A.T.I.C” on the album, and that tells you about all you need to know. Do I really need to tell you that when they attempt a power ballad, as they do with “Breaking Me Again,” the results are awful? “Inside Out” even manages to exceed that dreadfulness. But when Trevor McNevan (also of Thousand Foot Krutch) sticks to the formula, as on the title track and “(Hey) I Want It,” the enthusiasm and energy are almost too likeable to criticise. This is music made for children and people who can suspend their disbelief to a heroic level. You have been warned.
