CHRISTCHURCH UPDATE

Next Monday and Tuesday (30-31 May) are significant days in our response to the rebuild of Christchurch. On the Monday, denominational church leaders are meeting to identify the most pressing issues, ways of collaborating on next steps and ways of engaging the government agency CERA.  Rodney and a small team will bring the Baptist perspective to the table.

On the Tuesday, Baptist pastors of the wider Canterbury region are gathering to talk through the longer-term implications for the region. Three practical opportunities to assist:

Auckland churches: Heating for the elderly: new or second hand gas heaters; packaged, certified (preferably), plus $10 donation per heater for freight costs.  Containerisation will be 1st or 2nd week in June.  Collection points: Liberty, Eastgate, Manukau City and Windsor Park Baptist

Teams of people:  to go door knocking into the communities in Christchurch to determine on-going needs.

Pastoral relief: other pastors to come alongside the local Christchurch pastors and give them a break.
