Church 'music'

It was good to read Tim Jollies’ common sense article in the February NZ Baptist on “music” in our church services. I am surprised that parents don’t seem concerned about the effect the loud music in our services is having on their children’s ears.

And there must be something wrong when churches, as Tim states, have to provide ear muffs for their babies and young children. Tim says so sensibly: “Why not turn the volume down?”

People who go to rock concerts know what to expect, but people who go to church to worship God shouldn’t have to endure this ear-bashing. Some services these days are much more like secular concerts. If God did speak, would we be able to hear him over the strident percussion?
