Over the winter months a group met for mid-week conversations. The idea came from a request for support with Bible reading. Conversations followed themes: Women of the Bible, the parables of Jesus, and we have just started on the Beatitudes. It has inspired individuals to dig deeper and consider the perspectives of others and wider social contexts.
In spring we distributed light party treat bags to children via our op shop. These included an activity book with a Christian flavour designed by Joy Graham. Joy has also organised the compiling and distribution of 250 welcome packs for seasonal workers who come from as far afield as Kiribati, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. Our op shop is the place where relationships with the workers begin; last summer a number made Flaxmere Baptist their spiritual home.

Our Light Party (alternative for Halloween) was a great success with nearly 300 kids from the community attending. This was a great opportunity to present the gospel message and make contact with their parents. A large WEBC contingent participated as cast in a play for Bible in Schools students. The play was well received and the gospel message went out clearly. Contact has been maintained with the church in Waka, Ethiopia that we have supported for more than 50 years. We ended 2010 with WEBC has Christmas, a family celebration of God’s goodness, and a baptism service. Soli Deo Gloria.
