Coffee Break – June 2010

KelvynDear Friends,

There are some weeks that bring surprising encouragements and challenges, and you have to pause and reflect on the big question “what is God doing?”  The middle of May was such a week for me – in time I may be able to share the full details but not yet.

The reflection process and self examination leading perhaps to some reordering of how one’s energies and abilities are used is probably the most important part.  We cannot just keep adding to the responsibilities and tasks that fill our orb of activity and influence because if we do the stress levels become too high and something will have to give way.  Bottom line of course is this - are we sure we are being and doing what our Father in Heaven desires of us?  And that is not always easily able to be discerned.  However when there is excitement/passion, adherence to the inner promptings of Holy Spirit, service of others, opportunities for ongoing growth, and a sense of peace and joy deep within then we can be confident we are on the right track.

I found pastoral ministry to be nicely fulfilling most of the time.  Sure it is hard work and does stretch the reserves at times but we attest the fact that our God is true to his word when the scripture says “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion...”, and if we “keep in step with The Spirit” then we will never be overwhelmed.  I find my current ministry just the same.

We had a great Pentecost Party on 23 May – full of creativity, activity, learning, celebration, and expectation.   And it came in the midst of our Self Denial season this year.  That is a good confluence because Holy Spirit is bestowed upon the People of God for mission.  In fact we cannot do mission (whatever that means) or be and give out The Good News of Jesus without being led and empowered by Holy Spirit – it is His function to make Jesus Christ known.

It is wet, windy, and chilly, so winter is coming.  Hunker down, but not too tightly because we need to keep asking “what is God doing?” and then be careful to listen and look for the answers so we can fit well with Him.
