Vicky Beeching – Eternity Invades

eternityinvadesDelayed guitar, Brit-rock overtones and slow-building dynamics. Check, check and check. For all their talent, Tomlin, Hillsong United, and just about every other worship artist kneels at the altar of U2, and that monotony in modern worship is oh so wearisome.

Musically, Vicky Beeching does too, so don’t go looking for something original here. But, if you can accept that, then this album may still be worth your time. Beeching’s melancholic vocals do provide a small point of difference, but it’s the lyrical content that is a step above.

It’s not that the words are particularly poetic, but they are generally very God-centred (as opposed to “me, me, me” worship). The lyrics are also more grounded, with “Break Our Hearts” proclaiming, “It’s time for us to live the songs we sing / And turn our good intentions into action / To bring the kind of worship you desire / And move beyond our self-absorbed distractions.” Eternity Invades is a worthy resource for church worship teams, if not a wholly creative one.
