Women’s NetWorx, under the oversight of Women’s Ministries, is headed by Wendy Salisbury and Sarah McMillan with a team of 12 ladies. Monthly events attract 60-80 women, churched and unchurched, meeting to enjoy friendship, food, some fundraising for local charities, and an encouraging word from guests such as Dr Chantal Taylor and Nikki Reeves.
The Women of Influence Conference in March was especially successful, with more than 300 attendees and speakers David Riddell and Petra Bagust. Coming up on NetWorx Calendar are BizNet and Her Story. The last men’s event at the Aviation Heritage Centre was catered for by the NetWorx team, dressed in wartime outfits, while the men enjoyed themselves in the historical environment. Men have also helped at ladies events.

The year has seen new children and youth group leaders who, along with supporters, are building strong relationships. A keen group attended Easter Camp and recently raised nearly $2000 for World Vision, spending many a cold hour in a cage downtown to make a visual statement about poverty. The new wardens and students of the church’s student flats had a camp to start the year. Our Pastor Darren continues to challenge us creatively with recent studies around the ascension, Pentecost and the Trinity. We also had a series with members sharing faith and travel experiences. To commemorate ANZAC Day one of our oldest members, Don Cowan, recalled his World War II experiences and how he found strength through his faith. Paul Thompson was in Samoa with BANZAid to witness the groundbreaking ceremony as the school rebuild began following last year’s tsunami. Several small groups continue to build community in different ways. One viewed the DVD Black Gold, stimulating further discussion around Fair Trade.
