The Baptist Churches of Sri Lanka will be celebrating their 200th anniversary in 2012. Part of the celebrations will involve the compilation of the denomination’s history in Sri Lanka. Prominent in that history is Rev. Charles Carter. Carter was the first president of the New Zealand Baptist Union in 1882. He pastored Ponsonby Baptist (1882-85) and Caversham (1885-88).
Prior to that he served as a missionary in Sri Lanka, where he served as a pastor and engaged in important Bible translation work.
