Northland/Auckland – May 2010

Whangarei Central
The first term of 2010 was the time for camps starting with Parachute in January, which more than 100 of our youth attended. Then it was the men’s turn with a camp at Manaia. 80 young people and 24 leaders were at the Easter camp at Manaia when 72 accepted Jesus into their lives. Palm Sunday evening youth service, including communion, was humbling and inspiring. The church was full Easter Sunday for the joyful resurrection and baptismal service for nine people.

Good Friday was celebrated with an outdoor 8am service using our new 5m high cross, followed by breakfast. More than 160 people got up early to celebrate Easter. We had over 100 youth attend eCamp & Easter Camp with many making commitments for the first time. Some youth’s attendance was sponsored by church members. Careforce programs are under way for the year with “Woman to Woman” and “Valiant Man” currently running. Once a month we have a $2 lunch. Last month our Indian members provided a great feed. We have two fully qualified part-time counsellors operating from our Lifecare Centre. 75 of us hired a bus and went to the Warriors’ first home game of the season – a superb night out including a BBQ in the carpark afterwards.

Recently we unanimously decided to create two part-time paid positions (1 day per week). We are thankful to have people from within our congregation, Sue Hadman as administrator and Maria Mulder in outreach ministry needs. We’ve welcomed 10 new members in the last few months. Another cause for celebration is the decision to extend our present building. The main project is the auditorium extension, but first of all we have converted the garage into a new ministry area. We are very excited to have started the Power Zone Sunday School programme. Soon we will also commence Mainly Music, which has been our desire for a long time. We’re praying that volunteers and funding will be provided to make these outreach ministries possible. March 20 saw us running an old fashioned Gala Day at the church property. Our members excelled themselves in displaying their particular talents to make the day a great success. Proceeds have gone to our church extension, which is already underway.
