The Crucified – The Pillars of Humanity
The Pillars of Humanity is a remastered reissue of an album that The Crucified originally released in 1992, and it is one of the more influential Christian hardcore albums ever recorded. I’m always a bit hesitant when it comes to reviewing albums in the hardcore genre, since it’s not a genre that I am very familiar with.
However there are definitely touchstones here that I can identify: the guitar riffs, for example, clearly hark back to early Metallica of the Kill ‘Em All era. Of course, the lyrics are much more wholesome, and very direct in their message in the way that a lot of ‘90s heavy Christian music tended to be.
Singer Mark Salomon delivers his vocals as a fairly constant loud yell, rather than the throat-shredding screaming of modern hardcore. If hardcore is your thing, then The Pillars of Humanity would be a nice little history lesson and a very good listen. 4 out of 5
