We find all sorts of excuses for not sharing the gospel with our family, friends, neighbours and even complete strangers. But the title of Dennis McCaskill’s book says it all: There is no excuse. It was Jesus’ last command to us before he left this Earth.
Dennis, formerly an evangelist with Avanti Ministries and now Youth Pastor at Taupo Baptist, has come up with a compact and practical book on how to share our faith with others.
He takes us through the process step by step, starting with why we should be sharing the gospel in the first place and spelling out quite clearly what people are saved from, and saved to. Frank discussions of the nature of heaven and hell are often topics Christians avoid so it is refreshing to find someone who pulls no punches.
But Dennis also makes it clear his book is not about beating Christians over the head with a big stick. It is about encouraging all of us to share our faith. He suggests practical ways to do this with ideas for gospel outreaches, tips on sharing personal testimonies, the use of gospel tracts and scriptures, and the importance of prayer. He makes an important point about the need to witness out of love and compassion, rather than a sense of duty.
His final word is: “If you want to live a fulfilled Christian life, then share the gospel message with as many people as you possibly can.”
Amen to that.
