Story of the Burmese workshops at the LEAD conference | Jun 2016

Wellington, June 27-29th

We invited the various Burmese church leaders here in NZ to gather and  intentionally explore what God would have for us to explore a combined future mission partnership together.  This event was timely, as several key denominational leaders from Burma (Chin and Kachin Baptist Conventions), have in their recent visits to NZ stated their suggestion for their churches in NZ to become part of the Baptist Union of NZ, and that as a response up to 10 Kachin, Chin, and Karen churches are in the process of making this happen. So fifteen Pastors and key leaders participated in this unique event- many meeting one another for the first time! During our three sessions we explored these themes;

A Visit to Marae | Oct 2015

A group of five pastors from five Baptist Chinese congregations in Auckland, together with 35 other brothers and sisters went to visit a Marae in Tauranga from Oct 19-20. This was the first time ever the Chinese speaking believers were exposed to the culture and religious faith of our beloved Maori brothers and sisters in Christ.

International Day Service

On the 23rd of August, 51 nationalities represented by about 47 flags came together in an East Auckland church. Once a year Eastgate Christian Centre celebrates International Day—a day that refllects the many nations that call it home. This time, themed ‘Unite’, the morning started of with scripture reading in six different languages followed by a Karanga, welcoming the different nations to partake of this morning.

Scholarship for Roi Nu

Roi Nu photo by Maryanne WardlawRoi Nu Maran is the first Kachin (Burmese) to be accepted into the Pastoral Leadership Training programme at Carey Baptist College. She was born into a family with eleven brothers and sisters, two of them now pastoring in Thailand and Myanmar. She and her sister left Myanmar due to the political situation, and were accepted as refugees to NZ in 2008.
