Baptist churches have programmes and activities designed to help connect and build relationships within their local area. Through this active community involvement they are able to transform communities and bring positive change for the individuals who live within them.
These local initiatives vary from church to church and include such projects as: early childhood services, food banks, budgeting services, community housing projects, children’s and youth work, older adult care services, and work amongst new immigrants.
The Community Ministries team is committed to equipping Baptist churches in these efforts. They do this through a range of activities that include:
Establishing regional and national networks
Developing and providing excellent resources
Identifying and developing opportunities for training
Encouraging and support effective partnerships
Advocating on behalf of communities
Supporting transformational change
Baptist Community Ministries is a Funding Manager for the Tindall Foundation. On behalf of the Tindall Foundation, Baptist Community Ministries disburses donations directly to Baptist churches and trusts, in the programme area of ‘Supporting Families and Social Services’
Baptist churches or trusts in the Auckland and Northland regions that have food banks may apply for ASB Community Trust food bank funding via Baptist Community Ministries. Combined churches food banks may also apply, providing that a Baptist church or trust is involved and that other denominational churches in the group are not also applying directly to ASB Community Trust. Funding is solely for food or food vouchers, not other expenses.
