Piano-decorated, melodic Brit-pop is possibly the most overdone genre in Christian music, so you have to do something pretty special to stand out in the field. Seabird do, and that’s because they sprinkle the melody with unexpected percussive twists (think Mutemath), and also because their song writing sounds accomplished rather than phoned-in. “Believe Me” is a good example of this and The Beatles are clearly an influence. Sadly, on songs like “The Good King,” Seabird do fall prey to Christian music’s chief sin: mistaking sap for earnestness.
