Walking with the Master

By Julie Belding

Are your feet dragging? Your toes losing their twinkle? This month we’ll all have a chance to get that spring back.

“In Step with the Spirit – Walking with the Master” will be Heather Marks’ theme when she speaks on June 26 at the Auckland Baptist Women’s annual day out.

“I’ll be extremely practical!” Heather says with a smile.

Heather was formerly a vice-president of the Baptist Women’s Union of the South West Pacific. But that was just one chapter in her interesting life. She and her husband, Gerard, have been in pastoral ministry for some 45 years, including five years in Papua New Guinea and six in Japan, where they served international congregations.

These days Heather and Gerard are enjoying semi-retirement in Tauranga, where both remain involved in Transitional Ministries – sharing their wisdom and experience with conflicted churches. Heather continues a ministry to pastors’ wives, writing a monthly newsletter of encouragement. And Gerard, a former national superintendent of the Baptist Union, still preaches occasionally and serves in interim pastorates.

All women in the Auckland region and beyond are invited to hear Heather speak as part of the seven-hour “In Step with the Spirit” event on Saturday, June 26 from 3 to 9:30pm. It will be held at Northcote Baptist Church and the cost of $25 includes afternoon tea (from 2:30) and dinner. Register by June 23 with Auckland Baptist Women’s Ministries, c/o Chris Guttenbeil, PO Box 75161, Manurewa 2243, or phone (09) 267 0050 after 3pm.
