Karori
Pastor Mike Enright
The men started the year with a breakfast followed by a weekend away in the Wairarapa in March. In February we had a Prayer Focus week that resulted in five groups focused on discipleship, care and community, service, mission and justice, and evangelism. Many youth attended Easter Camp in Feilding.
We had a newcomers’ lunch in April, and an all-age service followed by lunch for everyone at the end of the school holidays. May saw us combining with other churches in Karori in a My Serve event where we had a lot of fun clearing the stream in Karori Park of weeds, and we had a great lunch together as well.

Twelve years ago there was only one small group; now there are at least 11, meeting at various times. Names have changed from “house group” to “home,” to “cell,” to “life” and now “connect groups.” Using the Bible for study, each group has an individual name like Inspired, Disciples, Young at Heart, Whanau, Sistas, and chooses topics such as spiritual gifts, Genesis, women of the OT, growing together, and looking more deeply at Sunday’s message. For the 100 people involved, the value of a Connect Group is to know the Word, know God and know one another as friends. Small groups are a vital part of church life.
